What have I found? Some new cuts, after the jump...
Boybands (or all-male singing groups, in ka-ostheory terminolgy) are often remembered for their debuts. B2K is Uh Huh, MN8 is I've Got A Little Something For You, and Blue is All Rise. So JLS, the first proper All-Male Singing Group in, like, forever, disappoint with the uninspired Beat Again. And to add insult to injury, there's little flesh on offer (okay, beautiful Aston teases with a little cleavage).
If you like your bands a bit more real, Kid British might be more up your street, where you'll find Our House Is Dadless. This multi-racial band were described as 'the best new band in Manchester' by The Guardian. What I would say is, it's got cute boys and this is a cute video, as far from JLS's hopelessly dated clip as Nighty Night is from The Good Life.
You're always in safe hands with the boy from Bow, and for his latest Dizzee Rascal has teamed up with Armand Van Helden. Bonkers.
Really.
Given their video pedigree, it's astonishing that the Pet Shop Boys could sanction what must be one of the worst videos ever. I mean really: why? The song, however, is proper old skool PSB. Not that there was anything wrong with nu skool PSB.
Aqua is a funny one. Barbie Girl is a nightmarish 90s trip we'd all like to forget - but the Danish Eurodance troupe's Around The World was pure pop heaven. Back To The 80s isn't as good, but this new track is sweet (okay, sickly sweet) and pure guilty pleasure. Lock the door and shut the blinds - don't get caught.
I never liked Take That. But I have to say since they relaunched I've had to pay attention. Both Shine and Rule The World are excellent, and their latest offering, Said It All, keeps pace. And it's got the circus in. A scary circus with scary clowns. I like that.
If there was one song that should never have been subjected to The Remix, it's Annie Lennox's Why. But this effort, by QK, plays to the original's strengths. It's utterly gorgeous.
Shut Up And Stick To Making Music
IF THERE'S ONE thing I can't stand, it's celebrities making populist political statements.
I get the theory behind it. Stupid people who spend their days reading Heat magazine and mourning the death of Jade Goody (having previously called her every dehumanising name under the sun) will pay attention to Beyonce lecturing us about poverty and buy a little coloured band to wear on their wrist to show they've done their bit.
There's few "celebrities" who I can take seriously when it comes to The Issues. Annie Lennox on AIDS: yes. The Pet Shop Boys on most things: yes. Except...
Talking to thelondonpaper, Pet Shop Boy Chris Lowe said, "CCTV cameras have turned Britain into a gulag. You get off a train at a railway station and it's like a prison camp. There's not one little camera - they're all over the place."
Er, and what?
Fellow Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant added, "People would have found it slightly sinister at one time. But a generation has grown up thinking: 'Whatever'."
Yeah, whatever. CCTV can be abused, but the benefits far outweigh any negatives. It's thanks to CCTV that the Muktar Said Ibrahim, Yassin Omar, Ramzi Mohammed and Osman Hussain were convicted for their failed attempt to bomb three London Underground trains and a bus on 21st July 2005 - just two weeks after the 7th July atrocities.
Condemning CCTV will go down well with Stupid People, who will nod vigorously and whine about their civil liberties. But the threat doesn't come from a Big Brother state, it comes from Islamic extremists. Chris Lowe is living in another world if can't see that.
And that's the point - he is. Back in the real world, I'm glad cameras are watching every move I make, and every move They make, too.

Anyway, this story was provoked by the news that ka-os blog favourites the Pet Shop Boys are developing a ballet based on a Hans Christian Andersen story. That sentence makes my Shiraz-sozzled brain do somersaults. Is it real? Did I write it?
Yes, 'cos it's written down over at Digital Spy, too.
It's supposed to open in 2011 and will feature strings and electronics, which can only be a good thing. "It's got a story, it's like a Tchaikovsky ballet in that it's based on a story by Hans Christian Andersen but we've got the choreographer sorted out now," says Pet Shop Boy Neil Tennant.
And if it has Carlos Acosta in it I'll collapse in on myself and be sucked into a black hole.

EARLIER THIS MONTH, we learned that the Pet Shop Boys will release their latest album (remember those?) in March.
The album art for Yes is now available. "[It] has been designed by long-standing PSB collaborators, Farrow. Eleven squares of colour - one square for each track - form an affirmative tick on the front cover," says the boy's official site.
Popjustice, who previewed the album, comment on it too.

POPJUSTICE REVIEWS THE only worthwhile event in music this year (unless D'Angelo and Maxwell finally give birth to their overdue babies):
"You usually want to steer clear of people throwing the phrase 'return to form' around the place but 'Yes' certainly takes us back to the feel of a Pet Shop Boys most fans - and most record buyers - first fell in love with. In terms of songwriting quality it builds on the revived drive evident in 'Fundamental'. Not only that but where 'Fundamental''s production sometimes dragged songs in the direction of THE ELDERLY 'Yes' has a youthful spring in its step with sparky production, modern ideas and optimistic outlooks. Songs like 'Pandemonium' and 'Did You See Me Coming?' - which kicks off like a long lost track from the first Electronic album - are up there with 'i Wouldn't Normally Do This Kind Of Thing' and 'Liberation' in the happiness stakes."
The album 'Yes' is the Pet Shop Boys ninth studio album. It's released in March.
