BACK IN MAY, we heard about Brazilian film Do Começo Ao Fim (in English, From Beginning To End).
The film premieres in Brazil next month, and as Made in Brazil says, "may become one of the most controversial Brazilian movies ever produced."
Not half mate. The content - it's about brothers who are lovers - will titillate some, and challenge others. But as Enigma say on The Cross of Changes, "If you understand, or if you don't / If believe, or if you doubt / There's a universal justice / And the eyes of truth / Are always watching you..." (Listen here, those lyrics are at about 0:49. It's beautiful.) Or if you want highbrow, "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, Than are dreamt of in your philosophy." Do Começo Ao Fim isn't sleazy porn, and it isn't there to titillate. It's a compelling, touching journey that explores a complex issue. Before you reach for the lubricant, or start screaming "Incest!" and "EWWW!" try to engage you heart, your soul, and your mind. "It is not often that I feel as passionate about a national movie as I feel about this one," Made in Brazil say. I couldn't agree more.
Oooh looks like a good film!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very good. Extremely emotional.
ReplyDeleteWow so it's really "from the beginning" showing that particular relationship since they were kids... A must-see!
ReplyDeleteHmm. I remember you posting this. I'd like to see it, precisely because of my prejudices on this issue. With any luck it'll make me think deeper into the issue.
ReplyDeleteI would give just about anything to see this film...
