LENSED: Amir Khan

"You don't take a photograph. You ask, quietly, to borrow it..."

LENSED: IMAGE IS EVERYTHING

THERE'S SOMETHING A BIT wrong here.

How can someone have a face like this, and be a professional boxer too? It's a bit like the singer who smokes 60 a day.

Boxing boy babe Amir Khan is criminally overlooked by homosexualists. It's all David Beckham, Terrell Owens, blah blah blah... Asian men (specifically Southern Asian, as opposed to South East Asian) don't get much of a look in.

There must be some gay Indians and Pakistanis. I've seen My Beautiful Laundrette, I know they're out there...

Khan is a Manchester lad - and we all love a boy with a Northern accent, don't we? - and his family is from Pakistan.

  5. Mike, in some circles (i.e. enlightened ones) the term "Paki" might be considered offensive.

And Aussies don't count towards continental ethnic diversity - they're just the rough offcuts of the Mother Country ;)

  6. Opps, I didn't realized "paki" was derogatory. And you are correct in pointing that out. Wikipedia concurs "paki" is a racial slur in the UK and Canada (and wikipedia is always right!). In the U.S. it doesn't have quite the same connotation.

I also looked up "polack" since it's referenced with some frequency in "The Wire". Wiki states it's a person of Polish decent, but it's also can be considered a racial slur in the North America.

And what have a I learned? This internet web thingy puts a whole new spin on geographical and cultural specific sensitives, didnit?

And ummm..... what about the Australian Aborigines? No Aborigine gay porn stars? :)

  7. That's interesting that polack is an offensive term for Poles. Mind you I've never heard it used outside of The Wire...

Funnily enough my first boyfriend was Aboriginal, and he was exactly the kind of ho who would do porn if the opportunity presented itself...
